Hello! My name is JaTtik Clark. I am the principal tubest with the Oregon Symphony Orchestra based in Portland, Oregon.
こんにちは！ジャティック・クラークと申します。オレゴン州ポートランドに本拠地を置きます、オレゴン交響楽団の主席テューバ奏者をしております。
And I'm here with you today in Pomona, California at Eastman.
今日はカリフォルニア州ポモナの、イーストマン社に来ています。
I remember listening on the radio to my favorite rap songs and just learning the bass lines on my tuba.
昔ラジオで、好きなラップの曲を沢山聴いて、ベースラインをテューバで吹けるようにしたのを、憶えています。
I had near for it, and I could just instantly play through those licks, and I would go to school, play those licks at school. And my friends would instantly recognize the pieces, and they would jam out.
近いところまでやって、そうやって吹けるようにしたのを色々と学校へ持っていって、実際に吹くんです。すると友人たちが集まってきて、すぐに「あの曲だ」とわかってくれて、そこからはジャムセッションですよ。
So I made that connection and recognition early without even knowing it. I was doing my own oral skills and ear training.
そうやって聴いた音を楽器で吹けるように結びつけることと、何の音かを認識して把握する、そういう音楽トレーニングがある、ということを知る前から、やっていたわけです。楽器を吹くスキルと、耳を鍛えることを、我流でしていた、ということですね。

Having just played the Juneteenth Celebration at the Hollywood Bowl with the recollective orchestra, which may be the first time that you've had an all African-American Orchestra put together for the purpose of, you know, celebrating the Juneteenth Holiday really kind of drove home.
（2022年6月13日の）ジューンティーンスの祝祭が、ハリウッド・ボウルで行われました。ここで史上初の、アフリカ系アメリカ人だけで編成されるシンフォニー・オーケストラが結成されて舞台で演奏しました。ジューンティーンスを祝う、これ以上無いものだと、本当に痛感しました。
The fact that though we've come far and advances have been made there were still more road to travel.
ようやくここまで、時代が進んだという事実は、それとして、依然として、まだまだ道程は遠い、というのが僕の意見です。
One particular thing that I wanted to touch on ... James Jenkins, who plays in the Jacksonville Symphony.
今日お話したいのが、ジェームス・ジェンキンスさんという、ジャクソンヴィル交響楽団のテューバ奏者についてです。
I worked with himright before going to graduate school, and James happens to be African-American like myself.
彼とは、僕が大学院に行く直前にご一緒したのですが、彼も僕と同じく、アフリカ系アメリカ人です。
Seeing someone like myself doing what I wanted to do was so influential and so important for me, as a young musician, as a young student.
当時、自分が目標としていることを、やってのけている人と出会うことは、本当に影響を受けますし、僕にとっても、若手音楽家として、学生として、とても大切な経験でした。
I say it's important, no matter where you are and how much or how little you may have in terms of resources, to seek those out, wherever they may be, and to just maintin that dream, keep the goal in mind, in sight, and keep moving forward.
自分がどんな環境に置かれていても、自分にはこれしかない、逆にこんなに抱えきれない、どんな状況でも、自分が目標としていることを求めていくこと、その目標としているものが、どんなところにあろうとも、その夢をひたすら維持する、目標を心の中に、そして目に見えるところに置き続ける、そして前へ進み続ける、これが大切です。

In terms of the qualities of this particular instrument, I really love the sound.
今手にしているこの楽器ですが、サウンドがとても好きです。
This big broad, warm, rich, resonant, very smooth in the slurs, very articulate, and pointy when you need it.
大きくて広がりがあって、温かみがあって、豊かで、よく響く、スラーでもとてもスムーズで、色々な表現がしっかりとできて、発音もタイミングよく出来ます。
It pretty much gives you just about everything in the crayon box that you could want in terms of colors.
音色についても、全ての色が揃っているクレヨンの箱を開けている、そんな感じですね。
Seeing pros like Chris Olka and others gravitating toward this particular instrument led me to give it a try myself and as they say a match made in heaven.
（シンシナティ交響楽団の）クリス・オルカさんや、他のテューバ奏者達も魅力を感じていることから分かるように、この楽器は本当に吹いてみたい、神様からの授かりもの、といったところですね。
