I was born in Israel. And I'm proud and very happy. I was born in Israel and proud of my country, proud of my heritage, proud of my people, proud of everything.

私はイスラエルで生まれた人間です。その頃を誇りに思い、とても幸せだと思っています。イスラエルに生まれて、国、受け継がれてきたもの、そこに住む人々、全てが私の誇りです。
I have a problem now, in today's world, where I can make difference, and help avoid mistakes as a citizen, as a civilian.
現在世界には問題があって、それについては、私にも変化を起こしたり、過ちを起こさないようにしたり出来ると思っています。それは市民の立場で、武器を持たない立場の人間としてね。
Not just vote every four years, but four years by opinon, and because it's a democracy, I can, you know, call a friend, call other friends, call many friends, and make difference somehow.
何も考えずに4年に一度選挙で投票するのではなくて、4年間のことを意見にまとめた投票をするのです。そしてこれは民主主義だからこそ、私が友人に1人声をかければ、他の友人にも、多くの友人にも声がかかります。そうやって変化を起こすことが出来るのです。
The way I work, though, and the way I try to contribute as much as I can is when I do ... make music. And I do ... spend a lot of time in East Jerusalem Sabreen Studio belonging to Said Murad, and we build bridges there, and make friendships, and we touch.
私がどう働きかけるか、どうすれば最大限の貢献ができるかですが、それは…音楽を生み出してゆくことでしょう。実際私は…沢山時間を割いて、東エルサレムのサブリーン・スタジオ、これはセイド・ムラードが所有しているものですが、ここで両者の架け橋となっって、友人関係を創って、そしてお互い接触の機会を作るわけです。
And we care ... we bring down the level of the hostility and the level of distrust.
それから気をつけているのは…敵意や不信感を抱く、その限界点を、できるだけ緩く持つことです。

今おっしゃいましたが、本当にイスラエルと平和共存が出来ると？

Of course!

Yes.

I want you to say to me clearly and unequivocally, that the Palestinian people are ready to live side-by-side with this Jewish state of Israel in peace.
マーク・S・ゴーラブ
これは分かりやすく、明確にお答えいただければと思うのですが、パレスチナの人達は、このユダヤ人国家イスラエルで、平和共存をする状態にある、ということですか。
DB
That's a political statement which I can't say for anybody.
デヴィッド・ブロザ
それは政治的な発言になるので、私の口からは、誰にもお聞かせできません。
MSG
But why? Why can't you say?
マーク・S・ゴーラブ
でもどうしてですか？なぜ出来ないんですか？
DB
I live with, say, the peace. I can say that out there completely, in true honesty.

私は、言ってみれば、平和に生活しています。現地で、完璧に、これは嘘偽りはありません。
MSG
Do you have a hope in the two-states solution?
マーク・S・ゴーラブ
所謂「2国家解決」に望みはあると？
DB
I do have a hope in the two-states solution.
デヴィッド・ブロザ
ある、とハッキリ申し上げます。
MSG
And if you have a hope, it's because you believe that there are Palestinians who would really implement a side-by-side in peace reality?
マーク・S・ゴーラブ
のぞみがあるとおっしゃるのは、平和的共存を実際に実行しているパレスチナ人達がいる、そう信じているから、ですね。
DB
Of course, they do. The West Bank is already showing it. The West Bank is already making all the preparations and all the changes that need to be made in getting the country ready.
デヴィッド・ブロザ
当然、そうです。ヨルダン川西岸地区は、もう既にそれを示しています。国家としての準備を整える上で、必要な準備と、起こすべき変化は、全て、既に創りつつあります。
And then in the situation that we were ... where we overnight had a state, and then might be, then might at the end, within a year, like they've already said, you know, depending on where things go, that they will overnight, they will just call themselves the state. And that will be it.
それと現在の状況では…またたく間に国家を建設して、何ていうか、結局、1年以内に、彼らがこれまで言っているように、状況がどこへどう転ぶかにもよりますが、彼らもまたたく間に、自分たちを国家集団であると言うようになる、それは、そうなる流れでしょう。
And Israel will live in the West Bank. And we haven't come to any arrangements as we should come to civil arrangement. And we will be stuck with reality.
それからユダヤ人も、ヨルダン川西岸地区に生活の居を置くことになるでしょう。そして私達は依然として、文民レベルで調整すべきことが、まだ出来ていません。このままでは、いずれ現実に直面して膠着状態になるでしょう。
And these things are going to happen. And I don't see why they won't happen.
こういうことは、いずれは出来上がってゆくのです。ですから「無理だ」という理由が、私にはわかりません。
MSG
Would it be good if it happened for your perspective?
マーク・S・ゴーラブ
もし「出来上がった」ら、それは良いことでしょうか、あなたの意見で結構です。
DB
Everything is good.
デヴィッド・ブロザ
何事も、良いことですよ。
MSB
No, no, David!
マーク・S・ゴーラブ
いや、何をおっしゃいますか、デヴィッドさん！
DB
What do you mean it's good? Nothing ... Listen. Everything is good. Everything is difficult. Everything is difficult. I mean, you know, how do we raise our children? We worry. But it's a good thing.
デヴィッド・ブロザ
「良いこと」の意味にもよりますけどね。何でも…宜しいですか、何事も、良いことですよ。そして困難なことです。困難なことですよ。例えば、子育ては、どうでしたか？不安や心配はあったでしょう。でも「良いこと」じゃないですか。
Of course I'm worried. I'm worried about, you know, maintaining the level of cordiality, the level of dialogue, not going to the extent that we are going to ... there would (be) violence.
私だって、そりゃ、不安はあります。どこまで誠心誠意物事が運ぶか、どこまで踏み込んだ対話ができるか、それは行き過ぎて…暴動にならないようにしないといけないわけです。
And there's not ... “we” is not “Israels,” “we humans.” But it's very difficult, all emotional. And emotions are manipulated into history, into religion, into all kinds of things, and then it becomes such a ... havoc and calamity, you know, lives can be lost. And that's dangerous part.
それから、こんな言い方…「私達」とは、「ユダヤ人」のことではなくて、「人類」のことですよ。でも非常に難しい話ですよ。全て、感情の揺れ動きが物を言う世界ですから。人間の感情の動きは、外の力によって操作されて、人の歴史が出来上がったり、宗教が出来上がったりと、あらゆることが出来上がるのです。そして所謂…破壊や惨劇になっていって、多くの人の命が奪われることもあるのです。それが危険な部分です。
