I am Zeng Yun. I'm a sophomore student of Wind and Stringed Instruments Performance of the Central Conservatory of Music.
曾韵(ゼン・ユン)と申します。中央音楽院（北京）の管弦楽器科の２年生です。
Recently, I've got a Gold Medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition.
この度、チャイコフスキー国際コンクールで、第1位を頂くことが出来ました。
I started to learn the horn at six. Both of my father and my grandfather are horn players, and they started the instrument since their childhood as well.
僕は６歳からホルンをはじめました。父と祖父の両方がホルン奏者で、２人も僕と同じように、子供の頃からホルンを吹いています。
(Zeng Yun wins a Gold Medal at this year's International Tchaikovsky Competition. Zeng is also the first-ever Gold Medal winner in the newly added brass category.)

I think every competition is like a checkpoint in video games. Everytime before the competition, I will go over my previous preparations beforehand, and it gives me the motivation to go for the next one.
コンクールというのは、テレビゲームをしている中での、チェック・ポイントのようなものだと、僕は思っています。毎回コンクールに臨む際には、そこまでやってきた準備を全て見直して、そうすることで、コンクールに挑むモチベーションが出来上がるのです。
So it's like moving from one station to the next, and every time it's a new starting point, and they lead me to the Tchaikovsky Competition.
言ってみれば、一つのチェック・ポイントから、次のチェック・ポイントへと移動していって、そのたびに、そこが新しい出発点になるわけです。その繰り返しが、今回のチャイコフスキー国際コンクールにつながっていた、と言えると思います。
In fact, there are pressures, but I think the records are to be broken. So the pressure does not exist, but sometimes when I think about it again, it's not that terrifying, and I'm happy about it.
実際、プレッシャーはあります。でも記録というものは、破られる運命にあるというのが、僕の考えです。ですから、そういう意味では、プレッシャーは無いものと考えるわけですが、それでもまた、プレッシャーのことが考えに浮かんでくる、その時は、さほど恐怖心はなくなっていて、それでホッとするわけです。
Because if a master is training his apprentice, and the apprentice could never exceed him, the technique would be declining.
先生が生徒を鍛えて、でもその生徒が先生を超えられないとなると、先生が教えてくれている技術は、衰退していってしまうかもしれないのです。
We can't let that happen. We need to go upwards.
それは避けなければなりません。私達は常に、向上することが必要なのです。
When we are playing in the orchestra, or as a soloist on stage, what we need to do is bringing the beauty of music to the audience. We need to bring them art.
オーケストラの中に入って吹いている時、あるいは独奏者として舞台に立つ時、必要なのは、聴衆に演奏の美しさを届けることです。芸術を届けることが必要なのです。
But music is the art of the moment. If you mess up, you wouldn't get another chance for the moment.
ただ、音楽とは時間の流れの中で行われる芸術です。失敗してしまうと、それを巻き戻してもう一度、というわけには行きません。
Music could bring me a sense of happiness, so I'd like to devote my time and efforts into it since childhood, to improve my skills, my knowledge of it, and my musicianship. I hope I can go on with it forever.
音楽は僕に、幸せな気持ちをくれるものです。だからこそ、子供の頃から自分の時間と出来る努力を全て、これに懸けたいと思ってやっています。そうすることで、腕が上がり、知識がしっかりとなり、そして音楽性が高まるのです。これをいつまでも続けることが出来る、そんな自分になりたいと思っています。
I like to put on my earphone, the one that could keep all noise away and listen to the symphonies. I'll search for the score for the horn and start practicing.
僕は好んでイヤホンをするようにしています。そうすることで、雑音が入ってこないようにして、オーケストラで演奏する曲を聴いて勉強するのです。スコアを広げて、ホルンのパートを追ってゆく、そんな風に勉強を始めるのです。
It's the same with other things. For instance, I'd like to play a supporting role in a group, like staying unnoticed sometimes. I think I'm satisfied to be like this, because I enjoy contributing my little strength into that group, to make it better.
何事に対しても、同じ態度で取り組むようにしています。例えば、僕はアンサンブルの中で、サポートに回る役割をするのが好きなんです。時にそれは、聞く人には僕の存在を気づいてもらえないこともあります。そんな役割に自分を置くことが、僕にとっては満足なんです。そうすることで、ささやかながら僕の力が、アンサンブルの向上に貢献することになるからです。
(Have you thought about your future career?)
（今後のキャリアのことについて、考えたことはありますか？）
Of course, I'll go on with my music. For us, maybe there are two or three routes: to become a soloist, to play in the orchestra, or to become a teacher.
勿論あります。音楽はずっと続けていくつもりです。音楽学校の学生にとっては、多分進路は、２つか３つあると思います。独奏者、オーケストラのメンバー、あるいは教職につくか、ですよね。
I like all of them, but my favorite career is to become a teacher because then I could pass on my music. It would give me a sense of accomplishment.
僕はどれも好きですが、中でも、教職が一番です。それは僕の音楽を、次の世代に伝えることが出来るからです。ある意味、達成感が得られるんじゃないでしょうか。
I've been following the International Horn Festival. I am still a student, though I'll bring my performance to the audience as a guest, what I hope to do is to express my understandings and let everyone to criticize, so that I could improve myself by learning from their advice.
今は国際ホルンフェスティバルに向けて、準備を進めています。僕はまだ学生の身分ですが、今回はゲストとして聴衆に自分の演奏を届けることになっています。でも僕は今回、これまで学んで自分のものにしたことを、しっかりと表現して、その上で、全ての人から厳しいアドバイスがもらえたら、と思っています。そうやって、その人達のアドバイスから、自分を高めることが出来るかもしれない、そう思うからです。
I think this will be the greatest achievement for me, a student to attend such an event.
学生の身分で、そのような機会に参加できるのは、僕にとっては最高の収穫になると思っています。
