Queen Elisabeth Competition 2025 finalist Masaya Kamei illustrates Saint-Saëns concerto No. 5 in F major op. 103.

I had this image of running freely through nature: light, but with a sense of energy.
僕の持ったイメージは、大自然の中を自由に駆け巡る、それも軽やかに、でも気力体力を心身に抱いて、というものです
There is also something geometric in the movement, and I was fascinated by the overtones and how they interacted.
そしてその動きの中には、向かっていく方向性というものもあって、それと、色々な倍音がお互いに連動しあうのも、魅力的だと思いました。
I tried to express all of that in a very intuitive way.
そう言うものを全て、ひたすら直感的に表現していこう、そう心がけました。
Saint-Saëns concerto No. 5 ... This is my first piece I played in my life. I really love this piece. This piece has many Egyptian melodies.
サン・サーンスのピアノ協奏曲第5番ですが、これを人前で演奏するのは、僕にとっては初めてです。僕はこの曲が大好きで、エジプト風のメロディがふんだんに盛り込まれています。
There are many different scenes, different colors, different atmosphere. When I listened to this (for the) first time, suddenly I fell in love. And I want to share this greatest masterpiece to (with) many people on the most important stage, so I chose this piece.
色々な場面、色々な色合い、色々な雰囲気が、とても沢山込められています。この曲を初めて聴いた時、その瞬間大好きになりました。そんな最高に素晴らしい傑作を、多くの人達と一緒に楽しみたい、それも、とても大切な舞台で、そう思って、この曲を選びました。
This is one of the biggest competition in the world. And for a long time I wanted to participate.
このコンクールは、世界でも最大規模の1つです。僕はずっと前から、参加したいと思っていました。
It requires many pieces like Ligeti (György) Etudes (pour piano), or modern pieces. And it's very fun for me to explore such new and interesting pieces.
沢山曲をこなさなければなりません。例えばリゲティ・ジョルジュのピアノのための練習曲、あるいは現代曲もですね。僕からすれば、そういう新しい曲や面白い曲に色々出会って取り組むことは、楽しいですよ。
The audience was very warm. The hall was very beautiful, acoustic. And I really enjoyed to play (on) this greatest stage.
会場で聴いてくださる方達は心温かくて、会場はとても美しくて音響もよくて、こんな最高の舞台で演奏出来て、心から楽しめました。
The competition is more exciting for me than I expected, especially in the Mozart (piano concerto), I got a lot of inspiration from the orchestra. So many things and new idea, what I wanted to do started overflowing. It was very exciting for me.
このコンクールは、自分が予想していたよりも心がワクワクするものです。特にモーツアルト（ピアノ協奏曲第15番変ロ長調KV450）を弾いたときなどは、オーケストラからものすごく沢山インスピレーションをもらいました。色々なことが沢山、今まで思いもつかなかったこと、自分がやってみたいと思っていたことが、ドッとあふれ出てきたんです。僕にとっては凄くワクワクする体験でした。
